Why Take A Wakeboard Lesson?
Besides trying something new, improving your skills, and having a great time, you will receive professional instruction from someone who knows how to explain and perform what you are trying to learn. We eliminate the bad advice and multiple people telling you 10 different things to remember. Instead, we focus on small incremental steps and parts of a trick to help build your confidence. When we put the pieces together, it's amazing how much faster and easier tricks are learned. Regardless of what level you are at, you will learn at your own pace with a highly qualified instructor.

An analogy we often use is this: If you wanted to learn to fly a plane, would you accept advice or a "theory" from anyone that has not flown a plane? Probably not. Wouldn't you want to learn from a qualified flight instructor that has a proven curriculum, and at the very least, has successfully taught a few others before you?

If you have been learning from someone that is teaching you what they think, or only teaches the way that worked for them, it's not always going to be a successful experience. Regurgitated information or what someone overheard, saw, or read somewhere can be out of context for your situation, and in no way compares to a skilled instructors first-hand experience and trick know-how. There is no substitute for experience but experience. As a wakeboard school, we are consistently analyzing and improving our instruction methods so we can help you achieve those desired results faster and safer than ever before. The drills, tools, and knowledge we provide will accelerate your skills beyond what you thought possible.

So if you are stuck in a rut and can't seem to progress past your current skill level, or have taken some killer and unnecessary falls, or are confused about the next steps, it's time to take a wakeboard lesson or come to wakeboard camp. After all, going to a wakeboard school is all about you having fun, learning, and enjoying your passion. No pressure, and no rushing with all of your friends in the boat waiting for their next turn, just you and an instructor giving you 1 on 1 guidance. At Mile High Wakeboarding™, you can take your time and prepare, practice, and learn correctly - the very first time, every single time.

Testimonials from those that have been to a camp or lesson. Also see our Facebook pages, and other review sites for direct customer comments and reviews.

About Mile High Wakeboarding™ Instructors
As one often finds in athletics, some of the best athletes in the sport are not the best instructors. Just because someone is a "world-class athlete" or a "professional wakeboarder", doesn't always mean they know how to break something down and explain it to you, in a way you will quickly understand. Our instructors are chosen based on several important elements, including their communication skills, their knowledge of wakeboarding, their experience coaching, their professionalism, and their riding abilities.

There are absolutely zero applications taken for instructors at Mile High Wakeboarding™ and we pride ourselves in the highest caliber of instructors we have handpicked and thoroughly trained. Because our instructors work with, study with, learn from, and ride with the very best coaches and wakeboarders on the planet, they have the perfect balance of communication skills, ability, and coaching experience. In addition, many of our staff and guest staff are professional wakeboard coaches that are respected at the highest levels of our sport. Many guest instructors are current and/or former World Champions and are THE VERY BEST IN THE WORLD.

The training process to become a full time instructor at Mile High Wakeboarding™ is the hardest in the industry, and rivals any professional wakeboard school on the planet. Simply said, we take great pride in our instructors and wakeboard programs. We recruit, train, and retain the very best of the best. After completing over 200+ hours (five weeks) of "basic" training in the off season, every new instructor observes/drives the boat and/or cable for an entire season, and is then observed for an additional season before they are allowed to coach solo. No other program on the planet requires this much effort and training, and we see the rewards in the complements we hear daily about how great our programs and instructors are.

Advantages Of A Mile High Wakeboarding™ Lesson

All Inclusive - When you come to a Mile High Wakeboarding lesson, there are no extra or hidden costs, and dollar for dollar, we provide the best value in the United States for learning at a professional wakeboard school.

Professional Instructors - Our instructors can explain exactly how to do something in words you can understand. None of our coaches are young punk kids looking for a free ride for the summer. All of our professional instructors are highly trained and are some of the best and most respected in the industry.

Location - No other boats, no other traffic, no tubers or power turners messing up the lake - just you and some of the best water Mother Nature will allow.

Quality Cable Systems and Boats - Operating a wakeboard school, we require and expect the very best from our cable systems and boats, after all, these are the single most important pieces of equipment we use on an every day basis. After much trial and error, we decided to start manufacturing our own cable systems so we now control the quality and customer service. As the only US-based cable system manufacturer, our parts are easily accessible and readily available. No waiting for out of stock foreign parts at over-inflated prices.

When it comes to our experience with boats, we have found that some manufacturers and dealers promise the world, but just can't deliver on those commitments, or worse, have constant mechanical problems. This is important because with such a short season in Colorado, one wants to take full advantage of every nice day, with little to no downtime. For this reason, we exclusively use Nautique boats. Nautique has been one of the most reliable, versatile, and fuel-efficient boats we have ever operated, and the Nautique is simply what every core wakeboarder dreams of owning. From the first timer to the seasoned pro, Nautique has you covered.

Curriculum - The training program is the most important part of your time with Mile High Wakeboarding™. You will not only learn and progress while at wakeboard school, you will take home a customized next steps instructional to help you long after your camp is over.

Equipment - Mile High Wakeboarding™ uses the latest wakeboards and bindings, ropes and handles, helmets, vests, wetsuits, and other gear from top manufacturers. Check out our sponsor and partner page for details on what we gear we use on a daily basis, and what we recommend.

Controlled Water Conditions - With proper driving, daily prayers and sacrifices to Mother Nature, and smart cable and boat positioning to avoid wind and weather, we are experts at giving you the smoothest lines of water available. The lakes and reservoirs we use for wakeboard lessons and camps are selected because they provide the best overall water conditions available and are most often spared by the afternoon weather.

Number Of Students And Instructor To Student Ratio
At Mile High Wakeboarding™, all wakeboard lessons are one on one unless a group lesson is requested. We highly encourage you to sit, watch, and mingle with others before or after your wakeboard lesson. By watching other students and/or listening to the instruction given to them, you can quickly advance your own learning curve.

Student Age And Experience Level
You will quickly find that age is irrelevant in wakeboarding. Whether you are 8 or 68, all participants have at least one thing in common with other students, wakeboarding. It's a sport that brings entire families together so age isn't really a factor. We have taught several 4 year olds, rode doubles with quite a few 2 year olds, and have had dozens of 70+ grandmas and grandpas.

At Mile High Wakeboarding™, we divide students into these 5 categories:

First Timer (Introductory)
The first timer is brand new to wakeboarding and its related activities (wakesurfing and wakeskating) and is learning the very basics of getting up, staying up, edging, and maneuvering down the lake in a safe and controlled manner. A good boat/cable driver and clear instructor are absolutely critical for your learning, safety, and avoiding unnecessary falls. The enthusiasm of first timers is very contagious so this is one of the most exciting students for us to teach. Nearly every first-timer starts on the cable system in the best possible learning environment.

Beginner
The beginner rider has mastered how to get up and stay up, and is starting to learn basic concepts such as body position, stance, edging, and basic surface slides, simple spins, and tricks. You have mastered how to get in and out of both wakes (if applicable) and may be working on riding switch, surface slides, or ollies and jumps. Many, if not most, wakeboarders fall in between the beginner and intermediate level. This is also the stage where an understanding of various techniques starts to click for you, and with the right guidance and coaching, you'll quickly progress your wakeboarding skills.
One productive wakeboard lesson will make a lasting impression over your lifetime.

Intermediate
The intermediate rider has mastered the basic concepts listed above and can jump both heelside and toeside over at least 1 wake on the boat, and is in the process of, or can already jump both wakes. This rider has probably already played around a little bit on wakeboard sliders, boxes, rails, and kickers - and may also be working on intermediate level spins and inverts such as 180's, Backrolls, or Tantrums on the cable or boat. This is a very exciting stage in wakeboarding because the tricks and skills start to come very rapidly. Skills that used to be considered a big deal for someone now become part of their warm up routine and are no longer intimidating or given a second thought.

Advanced-Intermediate
The advanced-intermediate rider has mastered most foundation concepts, both regular and switch, and is working on advanced-intermediate level spins and inverts, such as 360's, Raley's, and inverts with grabs. This level of rider is most often considered an enthusiast and rides as often as they can with their friends, on boat or cable, or even with a winch or other creative contraption. This level of riding is also exciting because, with the right coaching, many of the basic spins and inverts will be learned in a very short span of time, as they build upon earlier learned concepts and start to really understand edging, hand placement, handle control, line tension, and other key factors.

Advanced-Expert
The advanced level rider has a pretty good understanding of all foundation elements, from most approach angles, and is working on spins and inverts that involve handle passes, or multiple dynamics and variations. This rider is most likely looking for guidance and improvement on a select tricks, such as a 720, Moby Dick, Tantrum to Blind, Tootsie Roll, KGB, Crow Mobe, or a 911, just to name a few. A combination of land, trampoline, cable, and boat exercises will play an important role in this level of training. This level of student may also be looking for guidance on how to put together a contest run, or train for an upcoming event or competition.

In Depth Description Of A Wakeboard Lesson
While this section does not apply to all students, from time to time, we get detailed questions from excited students that want to make the most of their time with us. They are stoked for their wakeboard lesson and want to absorb as much information as they can prior to, and during their session with us. For those of you that need to know some of the details of an actual wakeboard lesson or session, we've included this more in-depth description.

At Mile High Wakeboarding™, we focus on the basic fundamentals of wakeboarding; such as body position, stance, approach, and edging. These foundation skills or building blocks are essential for learning how to execute additional skills you'll learn later on such as jumps, spins, rolls, and flips or learning to hit rails, sliders, kickers and other water obstacles. We start our coaching program by spending time with each student to determine your current riding abilities, your personal learning style, and your wakeboarding goals. We know that each person is unique so a great deal of care is taken to ensure that every single student relates to and understands his or her wakeboard instructor(s) clearly. Our ultimate goal for you is to make the most out of your time with us so you can continue to progress long after you leave your wakeboard lesson.

Once you receive a break down of whatever skill you are trying to learn, you may start your program on land, by practicing the basic elements or parts of a trick through various exercises, drills, and/or trampoline training. This is usually done prior to moving to the cable and/or boat. For some tricks, we also explain the "why" as well as the how. By explaining the "why" (physics) of a trick along with the "how" (execution), we rapidly build your wakeboarding skills and confidence and help you envision what you are working on. This combination of mental and physical preparation advances muscle memory, air awareness, and basic riding skills much more quickly and safely. It helps you to understand how the basic elements of tricks you may already know assemble together to complete a new trick. And more importantly for you, it allows you to practice more easily, so once you feel comfortable, you can take your new skills to the water confidently, safely, and more successfully .....every single time.

Last, in order to make the most out of a session with us, we will create a list of exercises, drills, and "things to do" before returning for another wakeboard lesson. You will have a very specific, step-by-step instructional guide, tailored just for you. This will be a key to advancing your abilities, continuing your development after coming to our Colorado wakeboard school, and taking your tricks to the water safely and successfully. This out of school process could take a week, a month, or a year. Once completed, your next trip for a wakeboard lesson will be much more productive as we build upon a stronger foundation and skill set. Your time and money invested in a wakeboard lesson will have a much better value as you have something tangible to show for it.

You will be amazed at what you can do with the right coaching.

A Wakeboard Lesson In Pictures
Here is a typical example of a boat wakeboard lesson in pictures. This little girl was on her first wakeboard ride of the day with us. She was learning to ride switch and hold some butterslides. This lesson took place on the boat, but normally it would be on the cable system.
