Is
there a deposit to secure my spot? How much is it?
Adventures, Camps, Trips:
Yes. In addition to deposits that Mile High Wakeboarding
must pay to secure accommodations, transportation, entertainment,
and other items, extensive planning, preparation, and purchasing
goes into every adventure, camp, and trip. Therefore, we required
a nonrefundable deposit of $75 - $250 on most adventures,
camps, and trips, in order to secure your spot and cover expenses
to our providers. Please see your specific activity for the
exact amount.
Events,
Lessons, Clinics, Courses, and Other Activities:
Please see your specific activity for the
exact amount, if any.

When
is my deposit due?
Deposits secure your spot in any activity and are based on
a first come, first serve basis. Although final payment is
not always due right away, we recommend locking in your spot
with your deposit as soon as possible. All activities are
limited and have cut off dates.

In
addition to the standard deposit, is there an additional security
/ damage deposit?
Adventures, Camps, Trips:
Yes. For certain adventures, camps, and trips, we collect
an additional security / damage deposit of $50-$100 to protect
against property damage to hotels, houseboats, buses, equipment,
and other property. This deposit is entirely refundable and
has nothing to do with the trip deposit or cost of the trip.
Events,
Lessons, Clinics, Courses, and Other Activities:
No. No additional deposits are required for most events, lessons,
clinics, courses, or other activities.

How
much is the security / damage deposit? How is it collected
and refunded?

collected upfront, with other deposits and/or payments. Based
on the checkout list (damage reports) of our providers (hotel,
bus, houseboat, other) this deposit is entirely refundable.

Yes it's possible, depending on the specific activity, but
due to the restricted number of participants in all activities,
we usually sell out, and/or limit the numbers. We encourage
you to book as early as possible to guarantee your spot. If
there is an open spot available, we encourage you to register and
pay as early as you are able to.

What
is your refund, cancellation, and change policy?
These
policies are meant to cover all adventures, camps, clinics,
courses, events, trips, and other activities. Some items may
or may not apply to your activity.
Refunds
You may cancel your activity at any time prior to the activity
cut off date and receive a full refund, minus any nonrefundable
deposits, if applicable. See the pricing of your specific activity for these
amounts, if any. You may transfer your deposit to another
individual (you may be charged a change fee - see below) and
it is the participant's responsibility to find a replacement.
Unless specifically noted, activity cut off dates are 30 days
prior to the activity for adventures, camps, and trips; and
24 hours for events, lessons, clinics, courses, and other
activities. No refunds are available after the activity cut
off date or after the activity has started.
No
refunds will be issued for unforeseeable acts, weather, or
other circumstances. In the event of unforeseen weather conditions
or other acts/circumstances that do not permit an activity
to take place, the activity may be rescheduled and/or a partial
or full credit may be available. This is handled on a case-by-case
basis and is usually dependent on Mile High Wakeboarding
obtaining refunds from any accommodation or other service
providers. No guarantee is implied.
No
refunds will be issued if you or your child/participant is
required to leave an activity for emergency or medical reasons.
However, a prorated, transferable credit may be issued if
the participant is unable to return.
No
refunds will be issued if a participant is required to leave
an activity for behavioral reasons or violations of company
policies, such as the use of drugs, alcohol, and smoking.
This behavior will not be tolerated and may be cause for immediate
removal from the activity. In addition, you or your parents
(if under 18) may be required, at your own expense, to provide
return transportation to your home. We do not allow one "bad
apple" to ruin an activity for everyone, so we enforce
this policy with ZERO exceptions. Police authorities will
also be involved for anyone possessing a drug or controlled
substance of any kind.
Cancellations
For confirmation, cancellations must be submitted in writing, (email is best)
prior the activity cutoff date. Please include the participant's
full name, contact number or email, and the activity event/session
they are registered for to receive your refund (minus any
nonrefundable deposit).
It
is your responsibility to ensure we have received your email
or other written request. Be sure to check with us by phone
(or other method) if you do not receive a response to your
request within 24 hours.
Changes
Once registered for an activity, you may change your activity
session or the actual participant(s) based on two factors;
availability and the timing prior to the activity. Normal
cancellation policies apply if there is no availability.
If
your change is submitted prior to the cut off date, no fee
will apply. Activity cut off dates are 30 days prior to the
activity for adventures, camps, and trips; and 24 hours for
events, lessons, clinics, courses, and other activities. If
your change is submitted after the cut off date, a change
fee of $100 will apply for adventures, camps, trips and special
events; and change fee of $25 may apply for lessons, clinics,
courses, events, and other activities.
For confirmation, changes
must be submitted in writing, (email is best). Please include
the participant's full name, contact number or email, and
the activity event/session they are registered for, and any
new information such as a participant or newly requested session.
It
is your responsibility to ensure we have received your email
or other written request. Be sure to check with us by phone
(or other method) if you do not receive a response to your
request within 24 hours.
Security
/ Damage Deposit
For certain adventures, camps, and trips, we collect an additional
security / damage deposit of $50 to $100 from each participant
to protect against property damage to hotels, houseboats,
buses, equipment, and other tangible property. This deposit
is entirely refundable and has nothing to do with standard
trip deposits or costs.
$50
to $100 (see activity for details) may be blocked or charged
to your credit card or is required upfront. Assuming nothing
happens, and no damage occurs, this block / charge will be
released at the end of the trip, and/or refunded after our
check out inspection (damage report) from the host establishment
is finished.
Participants
are responsible for any damage to their hotel rooms and/or
host provider(s) establishment. In the event that an individual
causes property damage, they will be held liable for the cost
of the damage, which could exceed their damage deposit. For
some trips, the hotel or host provider may require immediate
payment for damages. At our discretion, police or other authorities
may also become involved.
Note
to all participants
You or your parents (for those under 18) are responsible for
any damage to hotel rooms, houseboats, buses, equipment, property
or any other tangible asset you may intentionally cause or
allow to happen. Destructive behavior will not be tolerated
and will also be cause for immediate removal from the activity,
NO EXCEPTIONS and ZERO TOLERANCE. If you see someone cause
damage, you should report him or her immediately. If the individual
that may cause damage cannot be identified, the group collectively
pays for this damage with their damage deposits. There is
no reason why there should be damages to any property (other
than accidental) and everyone should be on the lookout to
get 100% of their security/damage deposit back.

Can
I purchase extra trip or travel insurance?

cooperate or there are last minute family emergencies, or
unforeseeable circumstances. There are companies that do provide
travel insurance. You can perform an Internet search to see
your choices.

Company
Questions
Who
is Mile High Wakeboarding?
Mile
High Wakeboarding (MHW) is Colorado's premier wakeboard school and cable wake park. MHW offers wakeboard lessons and wakeboard camps for all skill levels, in addition to corporate and group events, "funstruction" clinics with your favorite pros, and many more activities on and off the water, in and around Denver and Milliken, Colorado.
Second
only to having a great time, the major focus of MHW is to
promote wakeboarding and other water sports and bring access to those that don't have an expensive boat or equipment. For those that are tired of riding on rough, public lakes, our cable park is as smooth as nature allows! And for those starting out, there is no better way to learn than on the cable!
Second
only to having a great time, the major focus of MHW is to
promote the sport of wakeboarding (and other fun sports), as well

How
can I volunteer on a trip? Requirements?
If you would like to help out on a snow trip or other trip,
we welcome the assistance, and you can earn a free trip. We
can always use extra medical, security, office, or customer
service personnel to staff various shifts throughout the trips.
If you are outgoing, assertive, over 21, professional in attitude
and appearance, and can relate well to teenagers and/or college
students, let us know where you think you could fit in. To
staff college, backcountry, or other expert trips, you must
have staffed a high school trip previously. As we do work
with impressionable youth, if selected to staff a trip, you
must be willing to submit to a drug test and thorough background
screening.

wakeboard camp. Some exceptions are made depending
on the group. All abilities are welcome.

Why
should I go on a houseboat trip?
Not only will you meet new people and sharpen your wakeboarding
skills, you'll get to explore some of the coolest lakes in
America and have a free tour guide. These trips are an absolute
blast from start to finish!!
The
cool thing about a houseboat trip is that you can take things
at your own pace and treat it like a true vacation. You can
hit the wakeboard boats all day, take out a jet ski, or enjoy
the total silence on the houseboat during the day, and chill
and/or read a book. You can set whatever agenda you would
like at whatever pace you like.

What's
the average age on a houseboat trip? How many people go?
The average age is 18-55. Most of the houseboats we use sleep
12-15 people comfortably in beds, but we limit most trips
to 10-12 persons. Regardless, we keep a ratio of approximately
5 persons for every wakeboarding boat so everyone can ride
as much as they want, although, some people don't ride at
all on houseboat trips. On certain trips, we may bring 2 or
more houseboats and several wakeboard boats.

Will
I be the only girl, boy, or adult on the trip?

Are
the trips chaperoned?
Yes, but all participants are adults. We keep the order but
we're not nazi's about having a good time. All trips are managed
by hand-selected staff of safety coordinators, emergency volunteers,
and a boat "captain".

Do
you have a drug, alcohol, and smoking policy?
Absolutely. If any participant is caught with drugs of any
kind, their parents or guardians (if applicable) will be contacted
immediately and the participant will be sent home immediately,
no exceptions. No refunds will be issued and the participant
will be responsible for his or her own transportation back
to their home.
For
those of legal age, we do not have a problem with the consumption
of alcoholic beverages, as long as it stays within reason
and is controlled.
We
have a no-smoking policy anywhere near our camp, lessons,
boats, staff, and facilities, no exceptions.

Am
I good enough to come on a snow trip?
Yes. Most trips are designed for those of all skill levels.
There are however, some trips (they are clearly stated) that
are designed for advanced and expert skiers and riders only.
On those trips, we do not allow beginners of any kind. These
trips include, but are not limited to certain heli board and
ski trips, backcountry trips, and certain resorts such as

What's
the average age on a snow trip? How many people go?
The average age of most trips is 15-18 for high school trips
and 18-23 for college trips. Depending on the resort, the
available accommodations, and the entertainment provided (private
concerts, parties, and events), we can have as many as 3000
to 5000 total participants on a trip, but have found it best
to limit the numbers to less than 1000 so everyone can stay
at the same hotels. Smaller trips that require advanced skills,
such as backcountry and/or heli boarding trips, average 10-25
participants.

So watch out kids, we're one up on you, we've already tried
it or done it or figured out how not to get caught. All trips
are managed by hand-selected staff, safety coordinators, emergency
volunteers, and security personnel to ensure the safety of
all those who attend and enforce respectable behavior. Although
there is some flexibility in the activities of participants,
we require them to be in ready contact, and/or in the presence
of one of our staff at all times. No one is allowed to travel,
play, or hang out by themselves or be alone, (unless safely
locked in their hotel room). All persons must have a buddy/partner
at all times, especially on the steeper slopes!
When
booking snow trips, we tend to book most, if not all of the
rooms at any given hotel, so we are able to control who comes
and goes, quite easily. There are also room checks each night
to ensure the safety of all participants, and enforce respectable
behavior. We give kids some latitude to have a good time,
but we have learned from several previous trips the sneaky
little things they try to get away with. In short, they are

What
activities are available on a tropical sun trip?
During the day, you can enjoy various activities such as parasailing,
boating, the beach, hanging out in the local town shopping,
exploring, and snacking; or hang out at the hotel pool or
spa and get a massage, or choose from other sun and fun related
activities.
At
night, you can either participate in our exclusive events,
concerts, parties, and activities, or you can choose your
own activities (if you are over 18). We tend to go all out
in the planning of our events, so you probably don't want
to miss whatever we have planned. These are usually pretty
off the hook.

happens if there is an accident or emergency?
All participants wear a wristband with our company information

our trained staff will access the situation immediately and
contact paramedics if necessary. If an injury is serious or
life threatening, the participant will be transported to the
local hospital and the parent(s), guardian(s), or emergency

What
happens if there is a mechanical failure or other problem
on the trip?
Things do happen from time to time, such as an equipment failure
or other mechanical or weather-related problem. We do everything
we can to plan a backup and prepare for such incidents. Some
things just happen (flat tires, engine failure, etc.) so we
just make the best of the situation and prepare as best as
we can, just in case. We do everything we can to ensure your
trip goes as smoothly as possible.

What
if I lose my pass, ticket, wristband, or passport while on

Find your assigned trip coordinator ASAP. Without the wristband,
you won't be able to receive food, get on buses, receive lift/concert/other
tickets, or enter/participate in any exclusive events.
Do
not lose your passes, tickets, wristband, or passport. Treat
them as you would money. You cannot participate in an activity
without a pass or ticket, and these are non replaceable. You
cannot access any exclusive activities or meals if you lose
your wristband. No exceptions are taken, and no refunds are
allowed if you lose something. Don't take any chances, and
guard these items as you would money. If you lose your passport
while in a foreign county it can be a very difficult and time-consuming
thing to deal with, and you could be stuck in that foreign
country for some time while it gets worked out. DO NOT
EVER LOSE YOUR PASSPORT.

Wakeboard
Camp Questions
What is the wakeboard camp all about?
Our wakeboard school and camp is about having fun and learning
at your own pace. On your first day (and prior to the first
day) we will discuss what you are looking to achieve, and
what your specific goals are. Maybe you want to just have
fun and ride smooth water all day, or maybe you want to learn
your first invert or spin. You can choose to work on your
tan or work on your wakeboarding skills, it's all up to you.
Mile
High Wakeboarding is about getting away from bad habits
and bad advice and spending quality time on smooth water,
learning what you want to learn. Space is always limited so
we are able to devote special attention to you, and help you
focus on your wakeboarding goals.
(Return

(Return
to Frequently Asked Question Topics)
Who
can go and who should come to a wakeboard camp?
Anyone wishing to push his or her skills to the next level
should come to camp. Whether you are just starting out with
something new or trying to push past a difficult trick, you
can never go wrong with dedicated water time and professional
instruction.
(Return
to Wakeboard Camp Questions)
(Return
to Frequently Asked Question Topics)
Am
I good enough to come to wakeboard camp?
Yes, everyone had to start somewhere. In some cases, it's
actually better if you haven't had any previous experience.
We can teach you much faster if you haven't received too much
bad advice in the past, or taken too many unnecessary falls,
or as we see often, developed any bad habits. Everyone has
to start somewhere and our goal is to make you better!
(Return
to Wakeboard Camp Questions)
(Return
to Frequently Asked Question Topics)
Why
should I go to wakeboard camp?
Besides, trying something new, improving your skills, and
having a great time, you will receive professional instruction
from someone who knows what they are talking about, not a
"buddy" or someone else who thinks he/she knows
how to teach you. We eliminate bad advice and multiple people
telling you 10 different things to remember. One instructor,
one clear voice; with simple, broken down instructions. It's
the simple and subtle tips that make the difference.
An
analogy we use often is this: If you wanted to learn to fly
a plane, would you accept advice or a "theory" from
anyone that has not flown a plane? Probably not. Wouldn't
you want to learn from a qualified flight instructor that
has a proven curriculum and has flown before? The same goes
for learning almost anything else, especially when there are
elements of risk involved.
Also,
wakeboarding camp is all about you. No pressure and no rushing
with all of your friends in the boat, waiting for their turn.
At Mile High Wakeboarding, you can take your time, prepare,
practice, and learn correctly.
(Return
to Wakeboard Camp Questions)
(Return
to Frequently Asked Question Topics)
How
often should I come to wakeboard camp?
At the end of each day at camp, and at the end of camp, your
instructor will go over your current list of goals and accomplishments.
They will instruct you on additional exercises and/or other
tricks to perfect before returning to camp. After mastering
these ongoing steps, your next visit will be even more productive,
as you will have a better foundation with which to build upon.
Most
people come to camp once each season. The lucky ones attend
twice.
(Return

(Return
to Frequently Asked Question Topics)
Do
you have an age requirement for wakeboard camps?
Yes, we require that all students be at least 10 years of
age (if returning to their home each night), and 12 if using
accommodations of some kind or staying with a friend or with staff onsite (both need
parent/guardian written permission). Some exceptions are made but it is rare.
(Return

(Return
to Frequently Asked Question Topics)
What's
the average age at wakeboard camp? How many people to a session?
The average age ranges from 10-55, depending on the camp,
but we have had 8 year olds and 68 year olds. Each camp has its own limit of participants, ranging from 3 to 20.
(Return

Will
I be the only girl, boy, or adult at a wakeboard camp?
Most likely not, but you will quickly realize that you have
something in common with everyone on the boat, regardless
of age or gender, wakeboarding! That's why it's such a social
and family sport. The ladies are also getting more excited about wakeboarding
and wakesurfing so the ratio's are usually around 60/40 girls
to guys.

(Return

Are
your instructors well spoken?
Yes. There are no applications taken at MHW and there are
no "young punks" trying to catch a free ride for
the summer. Each instructor is hand-selected and recruited
based on their knowledge of the sport, their experience instructing,
their communication skills, and their professionalism, not
just their riding ability. We take great pride in our instructors
and their experience, as well as our instructor training program.
(Return

(Return
to Frequently Asked Question Topics)
Are
your instructors coached and trained themselves?
Yes. Our instructors are some of the most thoroughly trained
wakeboard instructors on the planet. After going through workshops
on how to instruct, present, and communicate effectively,
our instructors learn to speak simply, and clearly. No matter
which instructor you have, the message will be the same. Keeping
it simple, they instruct step by step based on the student's
current foundation and riding ability. They can help you identify
goals as well as point out potential weaknesses in your riding.
Before teaching individually, each instructor rides along
with experienced instructors for their first few lessons to
observe real-life instruction situations.

you have a drug, alcohol, and smoking policy?

sent home immediately, no exceptions. No refunds will be issued.

What
activities are available at the wakeboard camp?
The wakeboarding camp is specifically tailored for cable and boat wakeboarding,
wakeskating, and wakesurfing. All activities are designed
to enhance the progression and riding time of each individual
as much as possible. Most riders want to ride, train, review
their video sessions, and practice as much as possible on
the water and on the trampolines. After all, isn't this is
what wakeboard camp is all about?
As
an extra adrenaline bonus (and just in case your body can't
keep up with your mind and 5 straight days of riding 4-6 sets
per day), we have an exciting alternate activity. As a group
(or partial group), we can take a partial day off midweek
and go to the local SkyVenture, indoor skydiving tunnel where we students can participate in an indoor skydiving session. This of course, is just in case you need a
break from learning that first toe-side jump or the edge change
needed for the tantrum. This is a really
incredible experience for those that want the thrill.

(Return
to Frequently Asked Question Topics)
What
types of things do you teach at a wakeboard camp? What's the
curriculum?
A fundamental understanding of the basics is a very important
part of our wakeboard program. Our program is designed to
not only help a student progress during their time with us,
but also to help them create (and stick to) a training program
that will encourage them to advance their skills long after
camp is over. Students will not only leave with an understanding
of what they came to learn, but they'll be able to sharpen
their skills by taking their knowledge back home with them
and teaching their friends what they have just learned.
Mile
High Wakeboarding is designed exclusively for the individual
that wants to advance their riding skills to that next level.
Whether a person wants to learn sliders, inverts, jumps, or
spins, or simply how to stand up, the training is specifically
tailored to each individual. Simply said, riders will receive
the maximum amount of quality instruction, practice, and riding
time during their time with us.

Will
I be in the boat while others ride or will I be dropped off

hearing these instructions, you will accelerate your own learning
curve.

Will
I get to ride with people of my own ability?
Yes, this is one of the greatest things about coming to a
camp or lesson. If you choose, you will get to stay in the
boat or near the cable and coach and hear everyone else receive his or her instruction.
By hearing the instruction to others, you will be able to
pick up on things really quickly. This is a great time to
learn things together and challenge each other. Who knows,
maybe you'll meet a new riding buddy to help push you outside
of wakeboarding school.

Can
I ride as much as I want? How much will I get to ride?
Yes, you can ride until your arms fall off. But

day, you will want to ease into it so you can still ride on
the last day without being too sore.

I
went to a camp before and I kept getting conflicted "how
to's" from different instructors. How is your camp any
different?
First, we are professional and there are no ego's allowed.
We work as a team. Second, while each instructor has their
own individual style, all of our instructors are taught to
present a consistent, steady message to students, using very
simple terms with no mincing of words. Third, our instructors
are continually evaluated on their performance, their communication
skills, and their teaching ability to make sure they are far above
par. We even have "secret students" to keep them
on their toes.
(Return

(Return
to Frequently Asked Question Topics)
I
went to a pro camp and was disappointed with the level of
instruction, what makes your camp any different?
Other than the cost of our wakeboard camp being less much less than other camps, we are different because we focus
on communicating proven techniques that work. Just because
someone is a great rider (or a pro), doesn't make him or her
a great instructor. Our instructors are taught to present
a consistent, steady message to students, using very simple
terms. You will understand and learn from any of our instructors.
We are different because we take the time to really teach
you at your own pace and ensure that you understand instructions. If you attend certain reputable camps before or after attending a MHW camp, it will be an easy continuation.

Can
you teach me the trick I want to learn?
This is a tough one. Everyone wants to say "yes",
but an honest response is "maybe". With good listening
skills and a little faith on your first couple of attempts,
we can probably get you going in the right direction. If you
have a good foundation and the prerequisites needed for the
trick you will naturally learn it anyway with the right instruction
and encouragement. We may be able to speed that along with certain tips, drills, and tools. We
will discuss your capabilities and goals before, during, and
at the end of each session and you will progress your riding;
but nobody can force you to try or learn new tricks or guarantee
that you will learn that elusive trick.

What
is all this junk about foundation? I just want to learn a
flip.
Well our job is to help you to learn what you want, but you
have to crawl before you can walk. To avoid injury and create
solid progression for yourself, we suggest you take things
step by step so it's fun, not painful. Your riding foundation
is very important because most tricks are variations or add-on's
to basic foundation elements, and each component builds upon
a previous piece of the puzzle. (You'll get a lot more on
this at camp.)

we can prepare you by ensuring that you have the foundation
in place to move onto the next step.

Why would you want to pay for a wakeboard camp where the conditions
are busy, rough, choppy, and just ugly to say it mildly? Other
boats are usually the worst culprit of bad water (rookies
doing powerturns). We conduct our
camps on our private lakes. The water will be the best water

learning what you want to learn. Space is always limited so
we are able to devote special attention to you, and help you
focus on your wakeboarding goals.

Who
should take a wakeboard lesson?
Lessons are essential for first timers, your significant other
or spouse (guys - never try to teach your gal), or those wishing
to push their skills to the next level. Whether you are just
starting out with something new or trying to push past a difficult
trick, you can never go wrong with dedicated water time and
professional instruction.

(Return to Frequently Asked Question

Am
I good enough to take a wakeboard lesson?
Yes, everyone had to start somewhere. In some cases, it's
actually better if you haven't had any previous experience.
We can teach you much faster if you haven't received too much
bad advice in the past, or taken too many unnecessary falls,
or as we see often, developed any bad habits. Everyone has
to start somewhere and our goal is to make you better!

(Return to Frequently Asked Question

Why
should I take a wakeboard lesson?
The same goes
for learning almost anything else, especially when there are
elements of risk.
Also,
wakeboarding lessons are all about you. No pressure and no
rushing with all of your friends in the boat, waiting for
their turn. At Mile High Wakeboarding, you can take
your time, prepare, practice, and learn correctly.

(Return to Frequently Asked Question
Topics)
How
often should I take a wakeboard lesson?
At the end of each lesson, your instructor will go over your
current list of goals and accomplishments. They will instruct
you on additional exercises and/or other tricks to perfect
before returning for a lesson. After mastering these ongoing
steps, your next lesson will be much more productive, as you
will have a better foundation with which to build upon.
Most
people take just a few lessons (2-5) each year, but you can
take a lesson as often as you feel you need to. Those just
starting out, as well as Advanced and Expert riders will likely
attend more often as the tricks they are working on are unfamiliar,
more technical, and/or require ground and trampoline work.

(Return to Frequently Asked Question

Do
you have an age requirement to take a wakeboard lesson?
Yes, we require that all students be at least 4 years of
age, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. We have also found it best to have parents sit in the
front of the boat or nearby at the cable during a lesson and keep comments and instruction
to a minimum. (More on this at orientation.)

What's
the average age at a wakeboard lesson? How many people to
a session?
The average age ranges from 10-55, depending on the camp,
but we have had 8 year olds and 68 year olds. Each camp has its own limit of participants, ranging from 3 to 20.

Will
I be the only girl, boy, or adult at a wakeboard lesson?

of age or gender, wakeboarding! That's why it's such a social
and family sport.

Are
the instructors any good?
Yes. There are no applications taken at MHW and there are
no "young punks" trying to catch a free ride for
the summer. Each instructor is hand-selected and recruited
based on their knowledge of the sport, their experience instructing,
their communication skills, and their professionalism, not
just their riding ability. We take great pride in our instructors
and their experience, as well as our instructor training program.
(Return

(Return to Frequently Asked Question

Are
your instructors trained themselves?

If any student or camper is caught with drugs or alcohol (if

be contacted immediately and the student or camper may be
sent home immediately, no exceptions. No refunds will be issued.
In
addition, we have a no-smoking policy anywhere near our camp,

What
types of things do you teach on a wakeboard lesson?

What
should I expect at wakeboard school?
You can expect to come and have a great time, meet new people,
and learn something new. Expect to leave with a basic understanding
of wakeboarding and boat driving. Our wakeboard school is
all about having fun and learning at our own pace. On your
first day (and prior to the first day) we will discuss what
you are looking to achieve, and what your specific goals are.
Maybe you want to just have fun, work on a tan, and ride smooth
water all day, or maybe you want to learn your first invert
or spin, it's all up to you. You can expect school to be laid
back, and lots of fun. After all, it's a mini-vacation. We
provide all of the equipment, snacks, and drinks, so you just
need to focus on having a good time.

Will
I be in the boat while others ride or will I be dropped off

hearing these instructions, you will accelerate your own learning
curve.

Will
I get to ride with people of my own ability?
Yes, if applicable. This is one of the greatest things about coming to a
camp or lesson. If you choose, you will get to stay in the
boat and hear everyone else receive his or her instruction.
By hearing the instruction to others, you will be able to
pick up on things really quickly. This is a great time to
learn things together and challenge each other. Who knows,
maybe you'll meet a new riding buddy to help push you outside
of wakeboarding school.

I
took a lesson at another school/camp and I kept getting conflicted
"how to's" from different instructors. How is your
school any different?
First, we are professional and there are no ego's allowed.
We work as a team. Second, while each instructor has their
own individual style, all of our instructors are taught to
present a consistent, steady message to students, using very
simple terms with no mincing of words. Third, our instructors
are continually evaluated on their performance, their communication
skills, and their teaching ability to make sure they are above
par. We even have "secret students" to keep them
on their toes.

(Return to Frequently Asked Question

I
took a lesson from a pro and was disappointed with the level
of instruction, what makes your school any different?
We
are different because we focus on communicating proven techniques
that work. Just because someone is a great rider (or a pro),
doesn't make him or her a great instructor. Our instructors
are taught to present a consistent, steady message to students,
using very simple terms. You will understand and learn from
any of our instructors. We are different because we take the
time to really teach you at your own pace.

(Return to Frequently Asked Question

Can
you teach me the trick I want to learn?
This is a tough one. Everyone wants to say "yes",
but an honest response is "maybe". With good listening
skills and a little faith on your first couple of attempts,
we can probably get you going in the right direction. If you
have a good foundation and the prerequisites needed for the
trick you will naturally learn it anyway with the right instruction
and encouragement. We may be able to speed that along with certain tips, drills, and tools. We
will discuss your capabilities and goals before, during, and
at the end of each session and you will progress your riding;
but nobody can force you to try or learn new tricks or guarantee
that you will learn that elusive trick.

(Return to Frequently Asked Question

What
is all this junk about foundation? I just want to learn a
flip.
Well our job is to help you to learn what you want, but you
have to crawl before you can walk. To avoid injury and create
solid progression for yourself, we suggest you take things
step by step so it's fun, not painful. Your riding foundation
is very important because most tricks are variations or add-on's
to basic foundation elements, and each component builds upon
a previous piece of the puzzle. (You'll get a lot more on
this at camp.)

(Return to Frequently Asked Question

I
want to learn a trick but I am scared to try it. Can you help?
Well that funny feeling in your stomach that tells you you're
scared or nervous never goes away, but we'll teach you to
control it. We can't convince you to try something new but
we can prepare you by ensuring that you have the foundation
in place to move onto the next step.

for advanced riders, whatever you want. You let us know when

What
will the water be like? I went to another camp and was trying
to learn but the water was horrible.
Why would you want to pay for a wakeboard lesson where the
conditions are busy, rough, choppy, and just ugly to say it
mildly? Other boats are usually the worst culprit of bad water
(rookies doing powerturns). The water will be the best
water Mother Nature allows.

What
is the local volunteer program?
During
each summer, Mile High Wakeboarding (MHW) recruits select
volunteers to help out as needed, with lessons, camps, and
other wakeboarding activities. In exchange for your help shooting
videos, taking pictures, and/or helping out on the boat, we
offer you free lessons for the day. You will earn a free day
on the boat (including food, boat gas, drinks, use of equipment,
lessons, etc.) in exchange for your assistance for the day.
This is a great way for individuals that would like to be
future boat drivers, or instructors at MHW, to learn the ropes
and get to know everyone. (We don't hire anyone we don't already
know.)
We can always use help at various events and contests as well.
Volunteering
is also a great way to get to know our instructors and staff.
When they have a day off and need a third, they tend to call
the people they know first. Chip in for gas and learn to drive
the boat (boat course required), and they are usually pretty
willing to let you tag along.
